The product of the New Zealand company ApiHealth contains certified multi-colored manuka honey with a natural content of MGO 100+ and a plant extract of licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) in a ratio of 8:1 to maintain immunity and respiratory system health.

Manuka & Licorice is a functional combination with a wide range of applications. Manuka honey (Leptospermum scoparium) is particularly valuable for its natural content of methylglyoxal, which at concentrations of 100 mg/kg shows stable antimicrobial activity, proven in laboratory conditions. Licorice complements the action of honey with its rich phytochemical composition, especially glycyrrhizin and flavonoids, which favor the body's defense mechanisms.
Scientific studies have shown that glycyrrhizin modulates the inflammatory response by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and activating endogenous antioxidant enzymes. In laboratory models, a decrease in interleukin-6, TNF-α levels and increased glutathione peroxidase activity have been observed. This gives the product an additional effect in maintaining the protective functions of the respiratory tract, especially in conditions of seasonal infections, allergic reactions or the impact of polluted air.
MGO from manuka honey works synergistically with licorice flavonoids (including liquiritin, glycyrrhizic acid, and isoliquiritigenin). This biochemical combination promotes the regeneration of the pharyngeal mucosa and soothes the feeling of dryness in the throat. In controlled clinical studies, patients with pharyngitis have shown a reduction in symptoms after 2 to 4 weeks of regular intake of similar honey and licorice formulas.
Regular consumption of honey in combination with licorice supports the body's overall resistance to viral and bacterial infections. In addition to its immunostimulating effects, licorice has a beneficial effect on adrenal function and cortisol levels, which is especially useful for chronic fatigue and stress.
