Boswellia is a resin from the Indian frankincense tree Boswellia serrata. For more than 3000 years, it has been used in traditional Indian naturopathy Ayurveda as an important medicinal agent under the name “Salaki”. Today, it has been proven that boswellic acids (alpha and beta) inhibit inflammatory processes. Among other active substances of the plant, essential oils and palmitic acid are particularly effective. Alpha and beta boswellic acids prevent the synthesis of leukotrienes, which are one of the causes of inflammation in the spine, periarticular fluid, joints, ligaments, etc. In addition, boswellic acids do not allow leukocytes (white blood cells) to penetrate the cartilage, which gradually stops the inflammatory process and protects the cartilage tissue from complete damage.
