Chaga mushroom - properties and beneficial effect:

Chaga mushroom is a very rare and difficult to recognize type of mushroom. It grows on the bark of birch trees. It is black in color, does not have the classic stump and hat, but looks like a tree growth. If you haven't seen it in a photo, you'd have a hard time recognizing that it's a mushroom. It is so fused with the wood that it is very difficult to break it off and, if you are not a mushroom picker, you may break it. The amazing thing is that Chaga takes about 20 years to mature and be ready to eat. It is found most often in Russia and China. In Siberia, it is called the "mushroom of immortality" because of its beneficial effects on human health. In China, Chaga tea has been drunk for centuries. In the USA, it became popular only in the 20th century after a novel by the great Solzhenitsyn, in which the mushroom was described as an anti-cancer agent. Today, Chaga is among the most highly valued edible mushrooms.
