Licorice root
The licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra – radix) offered by Dary Natury supports the respiratory system, digestive system and immunity. The root has a sweet, slightly spicy taste. It is also known for its supporting effect on the genitourinary system, psyche and skin. The plant is native to the Mediterranean and West Asian regions. In addition to folk healing practices, licorice root is often used as a sweetener in beverages, candies, and medicines. It is 50 times sweeter than sugar, but unlike it, it provides health benefits. The herb helps to soothe any kind of irritation and inflammation in the digestive tract. The medicinal plant is a rich source of triterpenoids, saponins, isoflavones, polysaccharides and flavonoids. Licorice root contains over 300 chemical compounds. The most active of these is glycyrrhizin, a powerful phytochemical that reduces body fat, is used in the treatment of stomach ulcers and fights infection.
What are the health benefits of licorice root:
• Licorice root is primarily known for its ability to relieve some gastrointestinal problems. Helps with nausea, acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome;
• Prevents the formation of ulcers by suppressing the production of gastrin in the body. Gastrin is a hormone that stimulates the production of stomach acid, which can lead to the formation of ulcers. Increases blood supply to the stomach, which promotes healing of existing stomach ulcers;
• The herb is effective against viruses and bacteria. Phytochemicals in licorice root slow viral replication and inhibit bacterial growth;
• It exhibits an adaptogenic and immunomodulating effect;
• Lowers cholesterol levels.
• Stimulates the work of the pancreas;
• Glycyrrhizin (from which the sweet taste comes) has anti-inflammatory properties. It is used in diseases of the respiratory tract;
• Bioactive compounds in the root help boost brain function;
• When used as a sweetener, licorice root supports healthy eating in diabetics;
• The fiber in the root has a positive effect on weight loss diets. Glycyrrhetinic acid further reduces body fat;
• Lowers levels of the body-produced steroid aldosterone, which increases salt and water storage in the body and affects blood pressure.
