The discovery of resveratrol in grapes has led researchers to investigate other similar compounds found in nature. One of the most promising compounds today is called Pterostilbene. It is a phytonutrient found in some fruits (especially blueberries). Although similar to resveratrol, pterostilbene differs from it in the following ways: it appears to be better absorbed and exhibits better metabolic stability. In other words, when you take pterostilbene, more of it gets where it needs to be - in the body's systems and organs - and stays there for a longer period of time. Preliminary studies suggest that pterostilbene offers antioxidant benefits that may be independent of those of resveratrol, but also complementary to its effects.
