Bromelain Specially-Coated contains the proteolytic enzyme bromelain providing 2400 gelatin digestive units per gram and calcium carbonate.
Bromelain is an enzyme found in the stem of the pineapple. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties, controlling the chemical messengers responsible for inflammation, as well as influencing the role that the immune system plays in the inflammatory process. It contributes to maintaining joint health. Its fluid-regulating properties help inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines and suppress the migration of neutrophils. Preclinical studies have shown that bromelain may contribute to maintaining healthy blood viscosity and platelet aggregation.
It is recommended that bromelain tablets be enteric-coated to prevent activation in the stomach and to be used as a digestive enzyme. Enteric-coated tablets pass into the small intestine, where bromelain is absorbed into the bloodstream to provide maximum benefits.
A clinical study found that bromelain was more effective than other methods at maintaining joint function and elasticity at rest, with a 41% improvement in the bromelain group compared to 23% for other methods.
