Omega-3 fatty acids fall into the group of essential fatty acids (EFA), which means that they cannot be synthesized by the human body. They must be obtained entirely from external sources, such as food or nutritional supplements. Omega-3 fatty acids contain nutrients such as Alpha-Linolenic Acid, Eicosapentaenoic Acid and Docosahexaenoic Acid.
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
This fatty acid has a strong anti-inflammatory effect on the body. It forms signaling molecules called eicosanoids that send information to the nervous system and affect the synthesis of each hormone. Also, Eicosapentaenoic acid has a pronounced effect in the treatment of depression, schizophrenia and hyperactivity.
Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)
Docosahexaenoic acid makes up 40% of the fat in the brain and is also concentrated in the seminal fluid and the retina. It improves vision and is extremely important for the development of brain function in children and adults.
