Description
European mint is a plant with a distinctive appearance that distinguishes it from many other plants. It is usually small to medium in height, ranging from 20 to 80 centimeters. Its stem is square in cross-section, a characteristic common to members of the mint family, and is often covered with fine hairs. The leaves are opposite, lanceolate, and have toothed edges, resembling a wolf's paw, which is consistent with its generic name, Lycopus.
Lycopodium grows throughout much of Europe, but can also be found in Asia and North Africa. It likes damp and marshy areas, such as stream banks, lakes and moist forests. It grows mainly in moist soils and usually prefers places with moisture, such as wet meadows and mountainous regions where there is access to water.
