Description

BIOVEA® Natural Micronized Progesterone Cream contains natural bioidentical progesterone USP, which is formulated to provide relief from menopausal symptoms, giving millions of women a safe and healthy alternative.

Progesterone can direct and control the production of other hormones such as estrogen. Most importantly, it is known that high amounts of estrogen can cause a number of metabolic disorders, and the body's natural way to counteract estrogen is with progesterone.

Progesterone cream helps achieve a natural balance.

What are the effects of low progesterone levels?

Not as much is known about the effects of low progesterone levels as there is about low estrogen levels. However, low progesterone levels due to anovulatory menstrual cycles, when the ovaries do not produce progesterone, can lead to a hormonal imbalance with too much estrogen relative to progesterone. This can lead to:

• Irregular menstrual cycles

• Heavy menstrual bleeding

• Endometriosis and uterine fibroids

• Irritability and mood swings

Why should you use Progesterone cream?

During the second half of each monthly cycle, from ovulation to menstruation, progesterone is designed to be the dominant hormone. Not all women produce enough progesterone during the second half of their cycle. Before menopause, as ovarian function declines, it is common to have cycles when a woman does not ovulate (known as an anovulatory cycle). This period leading up to menopause is called perimenopause. Anovulatory cycles that begin in perimenopause can lead to hormonal changes that can lead to hot flashes, changes in bleeding patterns, PMS-like symptoms, and many other symptoms of menopause. While progesterone levels drop to near zero due to anovulatory cycles in menopause, estrogen levels can drop to about 40-60% of pre-menopausal levels. Progesterone has a number of important roles in relation to menopause. It is a natural balancer for estrogen, as well as being necessary for optimal estrogen utilization. Research over the years has revealed other vital roles of progesterone on the heart, blood vessels, nerves, and brain. Many women find that supplementing with progesterone allows them to achieve balance once again.

Today we understand that progesterone, “that other female hormone,” is lacking, causing all sorts of subtle imbalances due to its absence. And this has led us to believe that supplementing circulating progesterone levels would limit a whole range of distressing experiences that women have simply accepted as part of being women.

What is progesterone?

For decades, we've been told that progesterone is the "pregnancy hormone." So why would we want anything to do with it as we approach midlife? Well, it turns out that story is far from the whole truth.

Progesterone is a precursor to the mineralocorticoids aldosterone and, after conversion to 17-hydroxyprogesterone (another natural progestogen), cortisol and androstenedione. Androstenedione can be converted to testosterone, estrone and estradiol. Progesterone is produced in the adrenal glands, the gonads (particularly after ovulation in the corpus luteum), the brain and, during pregnancy, in the placenta.

When our ovaries start to gently signal that they don't want to continue producing an egg each cycle, they don't, as estrogen levels drop. Instead, we start to experience a strange cycle where no egg is produced. During these months, the ovaries don't produce progesterone. And the relationship between estrogen and progesterone levels in our bodies starts to change.

We now know that progesterone affects our hearts, blood vessels, nerves, brains, and even our estrogen activity. Because progesterone does so much more than just manage fertility, its decline can lead to some very dramatic effects. We experience these effects as hot flashes, anxiety, insomnia, changes in sexual energy, and vaginal changes.

How much progesterone is available?

Progesterone cream is manufactured to contain a total of 59 grams of cream per container. Each 1.1 grams (one dose) contains 20 mg of natural progesterone. Each container contains approximately 50 doses. Careful clinical research has shown that this is an effective amount to achieve natural balance.

Directions: Use only as directed. Apply to soft areas, such as the inner arms or thighs. Rotate application areas each day to avoid oversaturation.

Premenopausal women: Take 1 dose daily, 14 days before expected menstruation, discontinue use 1-2 days before menstruation, and resume 10-12 days after menstruation (counting the first day of menstruation as day 1).

Postmenopausal women: Administer 1 dose daily for 21 consecutive days and discontinue use for 7-10 consecutive days.

Warning: Do not use if pregnant, nursing or planning to become pregnant. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Discontinue if rash or irritation occurs. Intended for use by adults 18 years of age and older.
