Webber Naturals Ginkgo Biloba Extra Strength contains Ginkgo Biloba leaf extract (equivalent to 12,000 mg of dried herb) a source of 48% flavone glycosides and 12% terpene lactones.
Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest known therapeutic herbs. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years for its healing properties. Studies show that it increases blood flow and circulation to the brain, helping to improve memory, attention, focus, and retention of new information.
After numerous studies, it has been confirmed that ginkgo biloba extract saturates brain cells with glucose, which in turn leads to better functioning of the brain and central nervous system. It also improves the transmission of nerve signals between brain cells, stimulates brain function and enhances memory. It is useful for increasing peripheral blood flow, having a positive effect on cold hands and feet and erectile dysfunction.
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 20 people aged 19 to 24 years, 120, 240, and 360 mg of standardized ginkgo biloba extract were randomly assigned. A computer-based test was used to assess cognitive performance at baseline and again at 1, 2, 5, 4, and 6 hours after supplementation. Each participant underwent a total of five study days: one to familiarize themselves with the testing procedure, then one each of 120 mg, 240 mg, 360 mg, and placebo, in random order, with a seven-day break between doses. At doses of 240 and 360 mg of ginkgo biloba extract, concentrations were noted to be significantly increased and remained so for up to 6 hours after supplementation.
