Vitaworld® Methionine
Vitaworld® L- Methionine
Food supplement, 120 capsules
An essential amino acid important for many biochemical processes in the body.
- 1000 mg of L-methionine per day;
- An essential amino acid.
Methionine is a sulfur-containing amino acid. It is one of the irreplaceable and vital for the body. It is not only a building amino acid for many proteins, but also participates in important metabolic processes. Methionine is a precursor of other amino acids - cysteine and taurine, as well as the antioxidant glutathione.
The metabolically active form of methionine is S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), which is found in almost all body tissues and fluids and is required for the synthesis, stimulation and breakdown of many substances in the body.
Vitaworld® methionine is available in the free L-form for best absorption. Each capsule contains 500 mg of methionine.
What is S -adenosyl- L -methionine and how does it work?
S-adenosyl-L-methionine, also called S-adenosyl methionine or SAM for short, is a chemical that occurs naturally in the body. It consists of methionine , an essential amino acid that is found in food and plays a central role in important biochemical processes in the body, such as:
- maintaining the immune system;
- supporting cell membranes;
- the production and breakdown of the brain chemicals melatonin and dopamine.
S-adenosyl methionine is a major substrate for transmethylation reactions, in which the methyl group is donated to a variety of acceptor substrates, including phospholipids, DNA, and proteins.
SAM occupies a central place in the metabolism of all cells and its amount in the body depends on the presence of methionine, which in turn works with vitamin B 12 and folate (vitamin B 9 ). Deficiency of these two vitamins can reduce SAM levels in the body.
Foods with the highest methionine content:
Foods that contain methionine are mainly rich in protein, for example meat and fish, dairy products, boiled eggs, but also soybeans, beans, Brazil nuts.
What diseases and conditions can L-methionine help with?
Methionine lowers the pH of urine, thereby helping to limit the proliferation of disease-causing bacteria, including Escherichia coli, by preventing them from attaching to the walls of the bladder.
People with liver disease often cannot synthesize SAM in their bodies. Preliminary studies show that taking methionine increases the production of SAM, which in turn helps to treat chronic liver diseases caused by drug use or alcoholism.
It also improves liver enzyme levels in people with the same diseases. It acts preventively, protecting the liver from damage.
Methionine improves cognitive symptoms, mostly related to memory.
It acts on regions of the brain that regulate the gene expression of amyloid proteins - one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease.
Methionine works to reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia, including pain, fatigue, morning stiffness and depressed mood.
A number of studies have confirmed that methionine reduces joint pain and inflammation. It is also effective in reducing swelling, improving range of motion and increasing walking pace in people suffering from joint disease.
Methionine also helps treat mild to moderate depression and is just as effective as antidepressants, but without side effects such as headaches and insomnia.
