Apple Pectin
Food supplement, 200 g powder
Apfe Pektin Flocken / Apple pectin powder, 200 g., is a food supplement of the German company Karl Minck Naturheilmittel. The product contains natural fiber from apples in the form of soluble flakes. The food supplement has a beneficial effect on the activity of the gastrointestinal tract and supports healthy digestion.
Karl Minck's apple pectin is obtained from apples through a special, gentle production process. Due to the high fiber content, the product is very suitable for improving digestion in a low-fiber diet and for supporting weight loss.
Apples are a good source of fiber, especially the soluble gelatinous polysaccharide called pectin, which binds to cholesterol in the gastrointestinal tract and slows glucose absorption. They also provide a high amount of antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B6 and manganese. Apples also provide some vitamin A, vitamin E, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, choline, betaine, calcium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus.
Pectin was first discovered in 1790. Only at the beginning of the 20th century was the practical application of pectins recognized, which can be used in food production due to their good gelling ability.
Pectin is a type of fiber found in all plant cell walls and tissues. The amount and concentration of pectin varies from plant to plant. Apples, apricots and citrus peels offer the highest concentration of pectin. Apple pectin improves digestion and helps prevent or treat gastrointestinal and metabolic disorders.
Apple pectin can prevent or relieve symptoms of a wide range of medical conditions, including:
- Diabetes mellitus;
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD);
- High cholesterol levels;
- Irritable bowel syndrome;
- Metabolic syndrome;
- Colitis.
Health benefits :
- Improving the function of the gastrointestinal tract
The gut microbiome needs pre- and probiotics to be healthy. Because it stimulates the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria, apple pectin is considered a prebiotic. What's more, it can help inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria in the digestive tract.
Apple pectin can aid weight loss by increasing satiety, delaying gastric emptying and reducing food intake. Slower digestion can help you feel fuller for longer. In turn, this can reduce food intake, leading to weight loss.
-
Control over blood sugar levels
Soluble fiber like pectin is thought to lower blood sugar levels, which can help with conditions like type 2 diabetes.
-
It supports the functioning of the heart
Apple pectin may improve heart health by lowering cholesterol levels and arterial blood pressure. It binds to bile acids in the small intestine, which can help improve cholesterol levels. What's more - apple pectin can affect the values of arterial blood pressure, which is a risk factor for the development of a number of heart diseases.
- Relief of diarrhea and constipation
Apple pectin can relieve both diarrhea and constipation. As a gel-forming fiber, pectin readily absorbs water and has been shown to normalize stools.
- May improve iron absorption
Apple pectin can improve iron absorption. It is an essential mineral that transports oxygen in the human body and is involved in the production of red blood cells.
Pectin may improve the symptoms of acid reflux, a condition in which stomach acid backs up into the esophagus. This leads to unpleasant sensations such as burning behind the sternum, nausea and vomiting.
