Inositol is easily absorbed by the body and is used to produce active inositides. The various forms of inositol (phosphatidylinositol and inositides such as IP3) are active in intercellular communication (e.g., the transmission of nerve impulses). Tissues that may be affected by inositol deficiency include: the brain, liver, and muscles.
