What is bile?
A yellow-green liquid consisting of 95% water in which bile acids and salts, phospholipids, cholesterol, steroid hormones and other components are dissolved. It is produced in the liver, from where it is transported through the bile ducts to the gall bladder. After eating, the gallbladder delivers bile to the small intestine.
What are its main functions in the body:
- stimulates the breakdown of fats and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K;
- regulates the metabolism of nutrients in the liver;
- helps to eliminate toxins, metabolic waste and excess cholesterol;
- contributes to excretion of excess bilirubin;

Under normal conditions, the gallbladder releases its stored bile into the small intestine in response to food. Bile, providing bile salts and acids, initiates the breakdown and absorption of fats.
