Chromium is part of the GTF (glucose tolerant factor) molecule, which is an important cofactor of insulin in regulating blood sugar. It favors the maintenance of the correct concentration of glucose in the blood. It supports the action of insulin and it easily "transports" glucose into the cells, where it can be used for energy.
