Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate and baking soda, is primarily used in cooking when baking flour products. Baking soda is completely non-toxic and can be used to solve some health ailments and many household problems cheaply and effectively. Sodium bicarbonate is a white crystalline powder. When reacted with acids or exposed to very high temperatures, baking soda breaks down into salt, water and carbon dioxide. This is the reason for its widespread use in many areas of human activity.

Health effects of using baking soda

• Sodium bicarbonate (rather, its aqueous solution) has a weak alkaline effect. It is a good antiseptic for conjunctivitis, laryngitis, stomatitis and rhinitis;

• A teaspoonful of soda dissolved in milk, or even better with a spoonful of honey, is the best remedy for coughs, as it thins the stringy secretions;

• Inhalations with a soda solution (a tablespoon of soda per liter of boiling water) relieve any respiratory problems by killing viruses and microbes that cause inflammatory processes;

• Baking soda is a popular remedy for quick heartburn relief (a quarter spoonful of baking soda to half a glass of water). In this case, soda should be used only when there are no other means at hand. Frequent use has the opposite effect: acid secretion increases;

• Baking soda is one of the best and most harmless means of removing the smell of sweat and is a proven hypoallergenic substitute for antiperspirants;

• Can be used as a scrub, both for the face and the whole body;

• Baking soda is useful for hand, foot or body baths, as it has an antiseptic and antimycotic effect;

• A strong soda solution soothes itching from mosquito bites and relieves pain from bee and wasp bites.

Household applications of baking soda

• In cooking, the product is used as a leavening agent. Baking soda turns the dough into a pastry with an ethereal consistency. Carbonated drinks are prepared on the basis of sodium bicarbonate. With its help, the time needed to cook meat and vegetables is reduced;

• In everyday life, baking soda serves as a harmless cleaning agent that cleans stains, especially greasy ones, from furniture, clothes and hard surfaces. With it, you can permanently remove unpleasant odors in the refrigerator and laundry basket. Baking soda softens hard water.

Recommendations for use:

For external use: Add 100 g to a warm bath or 1 tablespoon to laundry.

For internal use: Add 1 tablespoon to a glass of water 2 times a day. It can be used as a leavening agent, with 1 part baking soda equaling 3 parts baking powder.
